This time, in a rather short post, I would like to discuss pros and cons of playing RPG at night. Recently, my games have been starting at 9 pm so, it is quite late. Especially, because when we finally begin playing, it is usually half past 10. When we finish it is about 1, 2 am. So, basically it is night. Well, there are many advantages of playing in the dark, when the world is asleep and the wolves are howling, vampires flying around and so on. However, there is also one major disadvantage.

Let’s start from the advantages.

1. The atmosphere - playing during the night adds a unique ambiance to the game. Darkness, candles, music. Some horror game. Black and white dices… Yes, that’s definitely cool. And yes, it may seem like a sect… You can’t compare the atmosphere of playing at night and in a daylight. It is just different, even if you keep windows covered up.
If it is not too cold you and there are no mesquites/snakes/Jack-The-Rippers around, you can even play outside. That is an awesome experience…

2. Everyone has time - it used to be problem for us. Most of my friends I play with are rather busy people and it is often difficult to find time for a game. Everyone has time at night. Especially, when you don’t have to get up early the following day.

3. It is cool - it may be only me, but I really like the idea of night + friends + some beers. It doesn’t matter if it is gaming or partying. I will probably grow up one day…

Now, there is one major drawback of playing at night, which is:

Sleepiness and lack of concentration - most of us sleep during the night. So, everyone lacks in concentration. Darkness, candles, music it all only make the situation worse…

To sum up, always drink a coffee before a game!
